The secret diary of a single parent bloke
After my recent holiday (and in particular, the holiday snog), I’ve been back on the internet dating scene, and have been on a date with Dee. I met her on the same dating website as Jody, Helen and Karen, and we’ve been chatting on the phone for about a week. We arranged to meet in the car park outside an Indian Restaurant, and this time I knew what she looked like in advance!
When she arrived, I walked over to her car and said “Hello”. She said “where are my flowers?” I didn’t quite know what to make of this, but assumed that it could only have been a joke (although I really wasn’t sure). There was plenty of light-hearted banter as we walked to the restaurant, but it all seemed to be along the same theme: the cost of everything, whether this was the best restaurant that I could find (it actually was quite a nice restaurant) and whether or not I was being mean. I put much of it down to nerves, as despite this she seemed nice. As I took out my wallet to pay the bill, she took out her purse and said “well, you could have offered to pay for me” and put some money on the table. I actually hadn’t said anything, and had fully intended to pay the bill.
Despite the strange comments about flowers and paying, we had a nice evening, and I suggesting going on to a nearby pub. We got there, and I asked her what she’d like to drink. “I suppose you’re going to make me pay for that too” she remarked. Again, I wasn’t sure whether this was a joke or not.
I guess she has some issues about money, or possessions, or something, but apart from that, I had a nice night with her.
