The secret diary of a single parent bloke
Once the divorce had been finalised, together with the financial arrangements (including the credit card issue), I’d decided that it was about time Kat started to pay her way. She’d never contributed financially (or in most other ways) to the running of the household, and promises of payments to help me with the childcare had failed to materialise, so I’d decided to approach the infamous Child Support Agency.
Naturally, I’d heard all sorts of horror stories about the CSA, but it didn’t really look as if I would get any money out of her any other way. I phoned them up, filled in the forms, and waited. And filled in some more forms, and waited some more.
Eventually, I received a letter from them stating that Kat was claiming a 2/7th discount because she had the children every weekend. Yes, but only for a few hours, and overnight once every two weeks! I pulled out the diary and listed every night that she’d had them overnight since she moved in with Dave in April last year. I then worked out the average number of nights that she’d actually had them overnight (a measly 0.4 nights per week), put it into a table with all of the workings out, and posted it back to the CSA. They quickly agreed with me, and have instructed her employer to take the money directly from her wages every month. Result!
