The secret diary of a single parent bloke

An Apology

Uploaded: Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005.

Today I received an apology- a very important one, that I was only too glad to receive. It was from my Dad, and it meant a lot to me. All through the marriage problems and subsequent breakup, he’d been on Katrina’s side rather than mine. Actually, it’s a little unfair of me to say that he’d taken a “side”, but he was certainly seeing things from her point of view rather than mine.

She can be very charming, and had certainly convinced Dad that she was the innocent party in all of this, and that I was the uncaring, lazy, layabout husband and so-called father. He was convinced that she was doing all she could to make the marriage work, but I was just idle. He said that he hadn’t seen her for who she really was, and he was sorry that he’d doubted me for all of these months.

I always knew that he couldn’t see the real Katrina, but more importantly I’m glad that he can now see the real me.

Just catching up on a few “back issues” today, and wanted to say how much I am hooked on your story (I was going to say “enjoying”, but somehow that doesn’t seem appropriate!) It must have been incredibly hard, but I admire the way you were working through it all.

That’s great news. It must have made you feel very isolated that others couldn’t see what you saw in her.

Good, I couldn’t bear it if any of my family thought that.

I so totally relate to this feeling. It’s great when they finally ‘see’ the truth, isn’t it. Kind of freeing.
